Community Supported Agriculture

Come join Blumenberry Farms, the labor of love created by organic farmer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Mitch Blumenthal.  The former founder and owner of Global Organic Specialty Source and Noah’s Garden has returned, quite literally, to his roots.  He and his team cultivate some of the most desired produce in Sarasota County and beyond.  In the past, his product was sold to top restaurants and customers the same day it was harvested.

But that is all changing now.  You have an opportunity to experience outstanding heirloom varieties of beets, radishes, and so much more.  How? Through the farm’s new CSA program.

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. A CSA is the most intimate way that you, a person who loves fresh, local food, can interact with a local farm.  Everyone knows that farming is hard work. It demands long hours of physical labor and there is never a guarantee that what you sow is what you will reap.  Heavy rains, dry spells, and pests can all alter the course of a farm’s plan. Still, a farmer returns day after day and season after season because the satisfaction of a good harvest makes it all worthwhile.   By joining a CSA, you show your support of your local farmer as the season unfolds. You experience the challenges of growing as well as the celebration of a healthy harvest.

How does it work?  You agree to buy a subscription to the farm and we agree to fill a box with organic produce, eggs, and more.  The box will vary from weeks to week, as different crops reach their time of harvest.  Some weeks may be more abundant than others.  You may find that there’s a bumper crop of your favorite vegetable, for example.  You may find a bouquet of sunflowers one week and passionfruit the next.  Regardless of the content, you are guaranteed a wholesome selection of items from which you can feed your family.

  • We still have a few openings and offer proration for subscribers signing up after we have begun our CSA harvest.  With 15 Weeks remaining, a WEEKLY (15 weeks) subscription costs $600, and the BIWEEKLY subscription (7 weeks) costs $315.

  • Our harvest season will be 20 weeks long, ranging from the first week of December until the end of April.
  • Each week's harvest will vary according to crop availability (seasonally, and by the week for variety).
  • We aim to have 6-10 different items in each share including salad greens, cooking greens, root crops, herbs, flowers, and vegetables. Farm grown tropical fruits like bananas & guava may even appear from time to time!
  • Everything we grow  is always Certified Organic by the USDA.
  • We also raise ducks and chickens for eggs.  If you like, we can incorporate these into your shares. Our birds are happy birds; they range freely on the farm, and are only fed a diet of GMO-free, vegetarian feed; as well as any bugs and veggies they can get their beaks on.

  •  Just as you support our growing community, we also aim to support our broader community!  If you pick up your share at CDS (Community Day School, in Sarasota), we will also donate 10% of your sale to the fundraising efforts of the 7th grade class, who will be managing your pickup!

  • Full Membership: A weekly box of assorted Blumenberry goodness with about 6-8 different items that should feed a family of 4-5!  (15 Weeks remaining) weeks $600
  • Biweekly Membership: A box of 6-8 assorted goodies from the farm, arriving every other week.  (7 remaining) boxes $315
